It was certainly a great privilege to meet with you in your office on the morning of March 20th. Thank you for making time for my impromptu visit, and thank you for the photograph of our meeting.
On that Saturday, with less than 48 hours of notice, nearly 50,000 Americans gathered near the U.S. Capitol to bring attention to the popular resistance to nationalization of the health care industry in our nation. Certainly, this is only one issue among several where our fundamental liberties are under attack by various factions. These factions include those who believe that an elitist, centralized control is the proper course for society and also by those who merely follow their greed for power. Opposing them are those of us who are engaged in a significant and growing liberty movement.
Attributed to Aeschylus is the observation that, “In war, truth is the first casualty.” Using that maxim as a measure, we may validate that we are indeed in a war over ideas, values and individual liberty. One un-truth that the Left is using, and will continue to use as a political smear tactic, is their claim that the freedom-loving movement does not come from a “diverse” representation of society. Let me be a witness that this is not the case.
During the event on the Capitol lawn, just like any of these events I have attended, I met with my freedom-loving friends, and made new friends, who cover the spectrum of our society. They are Black (and prefer not to describe themselves as “African-American”), White, Native American, Hispanic, Jewish, Asian and “Other.” They are Christian, “Gay,” Atheist, and “Straight.” They are Young, Old, Fat, Skinny, Gorgeous and Homely. They are Married, Divorced, Wealthy, Just-Getting-By, and Broke. They are Moms, Dads, Kids, Wheel-Chair-Bound and Fit. They are White Collar, Blue Collar, holders of Advanced Degrees, holders of GED’s, Employees, Employers, Students and Teachers. I see all of them as Americans, and I call each of them my dearest friend.
A news photo or video tells only the story that the camera operator and film editor allows it to tell. The TV screen does not present reality. Please share my observations with your colleagues and recommend to your constituents that they go to meet all of these beautiful Americans in person. Heeding Churchill’s advice, we shall never give up.
